Ex db, Ex eb, Ex ec what? Where did Ex d, e and nA go?

Electrical Equipment Classification

In approximate terms the Explosion Protection Levels (EPL) Ga, Gb, Gc correspond to the Equipment Categories 1G, 2G and 3G which align with the Zones 0, 1 and 2. The latest IEC standards mean that nA (non sparking) will become ec (for EPL increased - zone 2); e (increased safety) will become eb (for EPL high - zone 1) and d (flameproof) will become db (for EPL high – zone 1). This terminology is mandatory from 2018.

CEE Interview and Written Switching Procedure Experience

SLD for the written switching procedure

Black colour is what I wrote
Red colour is the correction or further explanation.

Job Sheet: To perform maintenance at Ring Main Unit (2 + 1) at Pencawang Elektrik Kg Jelutong
(RMU 2+1 means 2 feeder and 1 Tx)

Preparation at all substations
1. Wear complete arc flash PPE
2. Note any alarms, trips and conditions of switch gears
3. Ensure rubber mat is available at all time
4. Ensure that HT voltage stick and multimeter are in good working condition.
• the steps above are done at each substation prior to commencing of switching work,

P/E Kg Jelutong
1. Inform OIC
2. At FA NOP
A. Perform voltage measurement at bus bar
a. Must state I.e. measured voltage is at 230VAC ph-n and 400VAC ph-ph within 10%, -6% tolerance for both bus bar and cable
B. Perform voltage measurement at cable
C. Perform phase rotation check at bus bar
a. Clockwise rotation for both bus bar and cable
D. Perform phase rotation check at cable
E. Perform phasing check between bus bar and cable
a. 0 VAC for in phase and 400VAC for out of phase

How important is synchronizing?

Synchronizing requirements
There are four conditions that need to be met when synchronizing a generator or generators to the grid, which are:
  • Voltage - Voltage magnitude of the Bus and Line must be the same or within the allowable magnitude set in the synchronizing check relay. Typical settings are at 5% up to 10%.
  • Frequency - Frequency must be the same or within the allowable slip frequency between the Bus (Generator) and the Line (Grid).
  • Phase Sequence - Phase sequence must be the same sequence i.e. R, Y, B sequence for both Bus and Line.
  • Phase Angle - Phase angle for each Bus and Line must be 120 deg apart respectively. The phase angle between e.g. R - Y of Line and R-Y of Bus must be within the maximum allowable angle difference. Typical settings are from 5 deg up to 15 deg. The charge man or competent electrical engineer would normally close the breaker when the synchroscope is close to 000 hrs, which means that the angle difference is closing to 0 deg.

Electrical Notes (Own)

Peace be upon all of you,

Here are some of my own electrical notes. It's hand written like a logbook. Hope it can help you to prepare for the Board of Engineers Malaysia PCE Technical Paper (Electrical) or just for the sake of increasing your knowledge.

If you have any comments or questions about it, do comment below or send an email to cruxofee@gmail.com

Here's the download link:

Both files have the same content. I'd suggest for you to print on A3 paper as it will be legible. You can still zoom in and the writings are still legible. The high resolution is better and brighter.
